Tanner, Tricia
1st Grade
Mrs. Tanner has a great love for children and for teaching; she views each child as a beautiful gift from God who deserves great love, kindness, and respect in a nurturing and disciplined environment. Students in her class learn about God's great love for them and about our call to be apostles of His love to others. Students in Mrs. Tanner's class are encouraged to practice virtue in imitation of Jesus, the Good Shepherd; likewise, we are all called to be His loving lambs.
Mrs. Tanner's love and care for children began in her own family because she was the oldest of five children and frequently helped at home. During her attendance at St. Rosalie Catholic Elementary School in Harvey, La, she learned about God's love and care through the teachings of the Dominican sisters. Later Mrs. Tanner graduated from Ursuline Academy High School in New Orleans where she became acquainted with the plight of the underprivileged through the teaching and example of the Ursuline sisters. After graduating from the University of New Orleans with a secondary education degree in science, Mrs. Tanner taught at Mount Carmel Academy High School in New Orleans for three years teaching ninth grade Biology and twelfth grade Advanced Biology.
For the next twenty-one years, Mrs. Tanner stayed home to raise her nine children, Erich, Mark, Michael, Therese, Stephen, Robbie, Mary, Blaise, and Katie. She home schooled many of her children over a fifteen-year span. In 2004, Mrs. Tanner returned to the classroom to teach Pre-Kindergarten for four years at St. Peter Catholic School in Covington, La. She simultaneously obtained her Master's Degree in Elementary Reading Specialty, from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. After successfully completing three Praxis teacher examinations Mrs. Tanner obtained full certification for grades Pre-K through twelfth.
In August 2008, Mrs. Tanner began teaching at Cypress Heights Academy with a year in the fifth grade classroom and now four years at the first grade level. She greatly enjoys teaching the precious students at Cypress Heights, and she is very pleased to have her two youngest children, Blaise and Katie, with her at school.
