Achord, Shannon
6th Grade Homeroom, Middle School ELA
Shannon Achord is a native of Zachary, Louisiana. She has lived in and around the Baton Rouge area her whole life. She and her husband Dale have three children. Addy is 8, Ethan is 7, and Jacob is 22 months old. English, reading, writing, and spelling have always been her academic strengths. She attended Louisiana State University and has her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Master of Arts in Education and Student Affairs. She spent 4 years as a counselor in the Admissions office at LSU. While advising current and prospective students in various academic curriculums, she discovered her love for teaching, and has previously taught Theology at St. John the Evangelist High School in Plaquemine for 3 years, and middle school Theology at Most Blessed Sacrament School for 2 years. She is a devout Catholic, and has been actively involved in Catholic ministry for over 20 years. She was a member of the Diocesan Catholic Youth Board in high school,
leader of the Baton Rouge Catholic Young Adults Ministry while in college, helped coordinate “Theology on Tap” events, and has had numerous other volunteer experiences within the Catholic Church. She loves singing, reading and writing music, and has previously been a cantor for St. Isidore, Christ the King, and St. Thomas More. She is passionate and unwavering about the right to life, and speaks out about the sacredness and dignity of God’s greatest gift. She has attended the March for Life in Washington, D.C. three times. Most recently she is co-host of the new Catholic Life TV show “Veritas Vitae” for the Diocese of Baton Rouge which features a variety of topics and guests sharing about their role in the pro-life movement, defending all life, at all stages, from conception to natural death. She also enjoys volunteering as a speaker for Woman’s New Life Center in Baton Rouge. She has enjoyed teaching the wonderful students at Cypress Heights this past year and looks forward to another great year in middle school ELA!
